Scope and Content: The Board of Registration of Nurses, established in 1910 to regulate nursing practice and education in Massachusetts, was renamed the Board of Registration in Nursing in 1941.  At that time was an Approving Authority for Schools for Nurses and School for Attendants (Practical Nurses as of 1953), with overlapping membership with the board. The authority was abolished and its functions passed to the board as of 1961.

Scope and Content: Savings Bank Life Insurance (SBLI) was a state-regulated program for Massachusetts savings bank insurance departments conceived of and promoted by then Boston attorney and later Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis.  St 1907, c 561, drafted by Brandeis, authorized savings banks incorporated in Massachusetts, under the auspices of the bank commissioner and the insurance commissioner, to establish insurance departments for the purpose of issuing life insurance policies.  The statute also established the General Insurance Guaranty Fund (GIGF) to provide protection for policy-holders. From 1919-1991 the program was run as the Division of Savings Bank Life Insurance, Dept. of Banking and Insurance.  It was supported successively by the Massachusetts Savings Insurance League (1906) and the Savings Bank Life Insurance Council (1938, incorporated 1947)

Scope and Content: The Massachusetts Consumers’ Council was an independent state agency serving as public advocate for consumer interests from 1963 to 1981, advising on and representing consumer interests to the state government, promoting consumer education, and from 1970 overseeing the unit pricing of packaging in retail stores.  Correspondence files contain incoming and copies of outgoing letters and memorandums written for files of the executive secretary, chairman, and other staff, created in carrying out the responsibilities outlined above.
