Scope and Content: The Massachusetts Emergency Committee on Unemployment was created to provide relief to the unemployed during the Depression.  The committee set policy and organized relief efforts in cities and towns to furnish employment, clothing, shelter, education, recreation, and moral support to the unemployed.  The report is a typescript copy detailing the formation and structure of the committee, its policies and programs, and descriptions and syllabi from cooperative educational and vocational programs.  Program reports also contain some correspondence and committee financial records.

Scope and Content: Pursuant to St 1819, c 161, an act to provide for separation of the District of Maine from Massachusetts as a state, commissioners were appointed to divide public lands and other property between the two states, including military stores (s 1: 2nd).  Series is a report ordered by the commissioners as an inventory of military stores on hand to be divided two to one between Massachusetts and Maine.

Scope and Content: The Committee for the Sale of Eastern Lands was created by the General Court to oversee the management and sale of public lands in the District of Maine.  During the course of its first twelve years, the activities of the committee met with indifferent results.  Consequently in 1795 the General Court directed the committee to suspend all subsequent sales and to prepare a report on its activities from the time of its creation in 1783 (Resolves 1794, Jan 1795 Sess, c 131).  This document, dated June 16, 1795, comprises the report sought by the General Court.

Reports of contested elections, 1777-1849 (Bulk: 1777-1843).

Scope and Content: The House of Representatives of the Massachusetts General Court, primarily through its Committee on (Contested) Elections, reviewed credentials of those representatives whose elections were contested to determine the right of a representative to his seat.  Cases before the committee were those where the validity of the election process or the eligibility of members in regard to conduct, character, or property ownership were questioned.  The committee’s reports were filed with House records and referred to as precedents when further decisions were required.

Scope and Content: The State Board of Health as part of its function to control and prevent disease required municipal boards of health to notify the board of the occurrence of a case of smallpox within twenty-four hours (St 1883, c 138).  Reports record this required information, as well as similar information from other state agencies.
