Scope and Content: The Committee for the Sale of Eastern Lands was created by the General Court to oversee the management and sale of public lands in the District of Maine. During the course of its first twelve years, the activities of the committee met with indifferent results. Consequently in 1795 the General Court directed the committee to suspend all subsequent sales and to prepare a report on its activities from the time of its creation in 1783 (Resolves 1794, Jan 1795 Sess, c 131). This document, dated June 16, 1795, comprises the report sought by the General Court.
