Scope and Content: The Board of Cattle Commissioners, established in 1862, was replaced successively by the Cattle Bureau (State Board of Agriculture) in 1902, the Department of Animal Industry in 1912, the Division of Animal Industry (Dept. of Conservation) in 1919 and the Division of Livestock Disease Control (Dept. of Agriculture) in 1934.  It was renamed the Division of Animal Health in 1967 (Dept. of Food and Agriculture from 1975).

Scope and Content: The State Supervisor of Marine Fisheries in the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (Dept. of Conservation), established in 1929, was replaced by the Division of Marine Fisheries, placed successively in the Dept. of Conservation (1939), Dept. of Natural Resources (1953),  Dept. of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Recreational Vehicles (1974), Dept. of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Environmental Law Enforcement (1985), and Dept. of Fish and Game (2003).

Scope and Content: The office of State Ornithologist was established under the State Board of Agriculture in 1908 (State Dept. of Agriculture in 1918).  It was replaced by the Division of Ornithology in the Dept. of Agriculture in 1919, which was in turn replaced by the reestablished office of State Ornithologist in the Division of Fisheries and Game (Dept. of Conservation) in 1934.

Scope and Content: The Water Division of the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) was responsible for both the adequacy of supply and the purity of water provided to the Metropolitan Water District (Boston and surrounding communities).  For this purpose, the division was empowered to construct, operate, and maintain reservoirs, aqueducts, and other waterworks (GL 1932 (Ter Ed) c 92, s 10 et seq.).  Unpublished annual reports were submitted by units within the division to its director, to inform him of the year’s activities.
