Scope and Content: The State Primary School, opened at the State Almshouse at Monson in 1866 and continuing after the almshouse’s closing in 1872 until 1895, provided lodging, instruction, and employment for dependent and neglected children under age sixteen without settlement in the Commonwealth and some juvenile offenders.  The institution managed an annual budget to sustain operations.  Attendant financial records include ledgers to summarize expenses for goods, services, and salaries by account.

Scope and Content: To establish accurate Massachusetts town boundaries, beginning in 1885 the Topographical Survey Commission sent out field teams to establish and describe triangulation stations and to set monuments designating boundary lines.  These volumes of geographical coordinates and descriptions of the triangulation stations are based on field notebooks of the survey teams.  Computations were verified, adjusted, and prepared by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey.

Scope and Content: The Government Center Commission was established in 1960 to acquire land and enter into contracts for the erection of a state office building (Leverett Saltonstall Building, completed 1966) and a health, welfare, and education center (Charles F. Hurley Memorial State Office Building (employment security), completed 1971; Eric Lindemann Mental Health Center, completed 1971; and a health, education, and education building, designed but not built) in downtown Boston.  Project files document establishment and implementation of contracts with architects, contractors, and engineers throughout the project. –For plans of project buildings see: Massachusetts.
