Scope and Content: The Bureau of Law Enforcement was established within the Division of Fisheries and Game of the Dept. of Conservation in 1941.  It was made the Division of Law Enforcement in 1948.  It was then placed successively within the Dept. of Natural Resources in 1953, the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs in 1974, the Dept. of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Recreational Vehicles in 1981, and the Dept. of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Environmental Law Enforcement in 1985. It returned to the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs in 2003 as the Office of Law Enforcement.

Scope and Content: The Department of Conservation was established in 1919 and replaced with the Department of Natural Resources in 1953.  That department was abolished in 1974 with its constituent parts distributed among the agencies of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs.

Scope and Content: The State Board of Health, established in 1869, was abolished in 1879, and its functions absolved by the State Board of Health, Lunacy, and Charity until 1886, when it was reestablished.  It was succeeded in turn by the State Department of Health in 1914 and the Department of Public Health in 1919.

Scope and Content: The Massachusetts Industrial Commission was established in 1926 in the Department of Labor and Industries.  It was renamed the Massachusetts Industrial and Development Commission in 1932 and abolished in 1933.  It was revived as the Massachusetts Development and Industrial Commission in 1937 and was abolished in 1953, when its powers and duties were combined with those of the State Planning Board in the Department of Commerce.
