Scope and Content: The Minimum Wage Commission was established in 1912.  It was continued as part of the Division of Minimum Wage in the Dept. of Labor and Industries in 1919.  The Minimum Wage Commission was placed in the Dept. of Public Health in 1936.  It was replaced in the Department of Labor and Industries in 1937; by 1939 it was again administered by a Division of Minimum Wage, which continued after the commission was abolished in 1973.

Scope and Content: Pursuant to 1892, c 280, towns with increased summer residency could apply to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (known after 1909 as the Bureau of Statistics) for a special census of town residents for the purpose of obtaining temporary licenses for additional liquor stores.  Correspondence between the bureau and town clerks concerns the summer censuses taken in Lenox, Nahant, and Salisbury (1904-1919) and Hull in 1924 under the Division of the Census (Census Division) of the state secretary’s office.

Scope and Content:Beginning with the 1875 decennial census the Bureau of Labor Statistics had the responsibility to collect and tabulate population and social statistics as well as to prepare the census of industrial statistics (St 1874, c 386).  Prior to the collection of data the schedule of the census was created by the bureau and presented to the governor and his council for approval.
