Scope and Content: The Board of Regents of Higher Education has overall responsibility for the state system of higher education. The vice chancellor for academic affairs, as the responsible officer for formulating and implementing policies concerning academic programs and head of the board’s Division of Academic Affairs, attends meetings of the board but is not a voting member. This series was created by the division to document system-wide policy for the public institutions of higher education. It contains agendas, minutes, and motions for discussion. Information is included on academic programs, personnel actions, and other activities of divisions within the Board of Regents.

Scope and Content: The Division of Academic Affairs under the Board of Regents of Higher Education is responsible for formulating and implementing policies concerning academic programs, as well as for participating in systemwide planning for state institutions of higher education and in other board functions.  College and university correspondence files contain correspondence with presidents and other officials of state-run community colleges, colleges, and universities that relates to a wide range of issues including proposed academic programs, evaluations of academic programs and institutions, admissions policies, continuing education, funding, and campus facilities.

Scope and Content: In 1980 the Board of Regents of Higher Education assumed the powers and duties of the Board of Higher Education, the Massachusetts Board of Regional Community Colleges, and the Board of Trustees of State Colleges.  Degree approval files of these predecessor agencies were transferred to the Board of Regents Division of Academic Affairs at that time and have been used by the board to carry out its functions of approving new degree programs and participating in systemwide planning activities.

Scope and Content: The Massachusetts Advisory Council on Education was established by St 1965, c 572, s 2 to recommend policies that would improve the performance of public education systems in the Commonwealth.  Through its director of research, the council coordinated and sponsored studies of educational issues, drawing on the expertise of individuals and organizations both inside and outside state government.  Study proposal and report files relate to topics being considered by the council as well as draft and final reports of studies completed under its sponsorship.
