Scope and Content: Under the direction of the state archivist, the Massachusetts Archives is responsible for securing, preserving, and managing noncurrent records of the Commonwealth determined to possess archival value. Until 1986 the Archives was located in the Massachusetts State House. Series was created to administer design, construction, and furnishing of facility renovation and upgrade.

Scope and Content: Under the direction of the state archivist, the Massachusetts Archives is responsible for securing, preserving, and managing noncurrent records of the Commonwealth determined to possess archival value. The reference staff retrieves records stored in the Archives vaults when requested by patrons. Vault/record request forms are used to identify material to be taken from a vault, and to obtain user name and signature signifying assent to rules of material use.

The reference staff compiles weekly reports of patron use of the Archives. Reports are used to record activity in the Archives, using data in forecasting use of the Archives and in preparing budgets.
