Scope and Content: Pondville Hospital was operated by the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health from 1927 to 1981 as a state facility to conduct cancer research and to treat cancer patients. The superintendent maintained annual report files, used to prepare annual reports to the commissioner of public health.

It was consolidated into the Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute in 1964.

It was renamed Foxborough State Hospital in 1905, and with the transfer of inebriates to Norfolk State Hospital it became an institution for the mentally ill in 19145. It was closed in 1975.

Scope and Content: The Temporary Asylum for the Chronic Insane (known also as The Asylum for the Chronic Insane) was established by Massachusetts in Worcester in 1877. It was successively renamed Worcester Insane Asylum in 1887, Worcester State Asylum in 1887, Worcester Sate Asylum in 1909, and with the planned opening of a new facility, Grafton State Hospital in 1915. That institution was closed in 1974.
