Scope and Content: Under the direction of the state archivist, the Massachusetts Archives is responsible for securing, preserving, and managing noncurrent records of the Commonwealth determined to possess archival value. Series is created to document acquisition of such records. –includes typed transcript. (Ms. original for 1934-1973 lacking.) Information includes accession date, record series title/dates, and receiving officer. Photocopy (and ms. original from Oct. 1984 only) annotated with accession no. and (from 1982) agency code/series no. Additionally constitutes legal proof of transfer of each accession. Information includes creating/transferring agencies and code; accession no./date; series title/no., disposal schedule item no., span dates, volume; signatures of transferring, receiving, and custodial officers; and comments on contents and acquisitions/processing needs/procedures.

In 1986 the Archives was relocated from the Massachusetts State House to a new facility in Dorchester, erected also to house the State Records Center and Commonwealth Museum. Series was created to administer design, construction, and furnishing of and removal to the new facility.

Scope and Content: Under the direction of the state archivist, the Massachusetts Archives is responsible for securing, preserving, and managing noncurrent records of the Commonwealth determined to possess archival value. In 1979 Franklin County records in the Greenfield, Massachusetts Area CETA (i.e. Comprehensive Training and Employment Act) subgrantee region. The project was carried out in conjunction with the records management unit of the State Secretary’s Public Records Division, now under more specifically the administrative control of the state archivist. Franklin County public records survey and inventory project files consist of the final project report and descriptive records inventories for the fourteen towns surveyed.
