Scope and Content: The Board of State Charities was established in Massachusetts in 1863, replacing the Board of Alien Commissioners, and was succeeded in 1879 by the State Board of Health, Lunacy, and Charity.

Scope and Content: The State Board of Agriculture, established by Massachusetts in 1852, was replaced successively by the State Dept. of Agriculture in 1918 and the Dept. of Agriculture in 1919. That body was renamed the Dept. of Food and Agriculture in 1975.

Scope and Content: The Department of Environmental Management M.G.L., ch. 21, s. 1, exercises general oversight over the natural resources of the Commonwealth, develops policies for their management, and administers parks and historic sites that have come under its jurisdiction. The commissioner of environmental management is responsible for preparing the departmental annual report (MGLA c 21, s 3 c). The annual report is a statement of departmental accomplishments during the preceding year and relates goals to be met in the coming year. Prior to 1987, the annual report was published.
