Scope and Content: The adjutant general of the Commonwealth, as executive administrator of the state’s Military Establishment, has been responsible for maintaining and reporting data concerning militia strength; these activities were intensified during the Civil War. This series, consisting of completed forms arranged by company and bound together, identifies the personnel available for service in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, in response to General Order 25 of Governor John A. Andrew.
