Scope and Content: The Temporary Asylum for the Chronic Insane (known also as the Asylum for the Chronic Insane) was established in Worcester in 1877.  It was successively renamed Worcester Insane Asylum in 1887, Worcester State Asylum in 1909, and (when moved) Grafton State Hospital in 1915.  The institution closed in 1974.
