General correspondence, 1869-1915.

Scope and Content: The Board of Harbor and Land Commissioners and its predecessor to 1879 the Board of Harbor Commissioners had general care and supervision of harbors and tidewaters in the Commonwealth; from 1888 the later body was also responsible for great ponds, and, 1901-1914, for completion of a town boundary survey initially undertaken by the Topographical Survey Commission. Correspondence was created to support these functions.
