Scope and Content: The Commonwealth had a continuing interest in the United States-Great Britain dispute over the northeastern boundary of Maine, from the Revolution to the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842; to 1820, as the state of which the District of Maine formed a part; from 1820, and pursuant to St 1819, c 161, an act to provide for separation of the District of Maine as a state, as the holder of title to certain Maine public lands. Series consists of correspondence and reports relating to the dispute sent or received by the governor and others.

Scope and Content: When the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) was established in 1919 as a successor to the Metropolitan Park Commission (MPC) and the Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board, the Engineering Dept. of the MDC’s Parks Division continued the functions of the Engineering Dept. of the MPC. Known also as Park Engineering, Parks Engineering, and the Parks Engineering Dept., it was designated at least as early as 1953 as the Division of Parks Engineering, until absorbed into the Engineering Division by 1975.

Scope and Content: The Metropolitan Park Commission (MPC) (1893-1919) and its successor the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) (since 1919) have been responsible for oversight of the acquisition, maintainance, policing, and use of the Metropolitan Parks District (Boston and surrounding communities). Among the secretary’s duties was granting of permits to municipalities, private businesses, and individuals for use of parks and waterways under the jurisdiction of MDC. The secretary maintained this copy as the official record of the permit and forwarded a copy to the superintendent of the MDC park or reservation.

Scope and Content: The Fall River Mental Health Center apparently originated in 1968 as a successor to the Union Hospital (Fall River, Mass.) Mental Health Center; by 1971 it was called the Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health Center. The Corrigan Mental Health Center is a public mental health facility operating under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Dept. of Mental Health (DMH), providing acute care for local residents and continuing care services for DMH eligible clients, with limited inpatient facilities.

It was successively renamed the Massachusetts State Sanatorium in 1900, Rutland State Sanatorium in 1910, Rutland Hospital in 1963, and after the move to a new facility, Rutland Heights Hospital in 1965.
