Scope and Content: The adjutant general of the Commonwealth, as executive administrator of the state’s Military Establishment, came to be responsible for preserving and administering information about all aspects of the state’s military service. Established by St 1899, c 381, an Examining Board for Officers was responsible for interviewing each elected officer of the militia to determine his qualifications and competency in military, moral, and physical terms.
