Part of: Massachusetts Adjutant General's Office

Naval enlistments by town, 1861-1870 (Bulk: 1864).

2 volumes
Call no.: PS1/469X

Scope and Content: The adjutant general of the Commonwealth, as executive administrator of the state’s Military Establishment, has been responsible for maintaining and reporting data concerning militia strength.  During and after the Civil War these activities were intensified, particularly as they related to fulfillment of municipal recruitment quotas and determinations of entitlement to state aid, bounties, and other benefits.  Consisting of lists of Massachusetts recruits entering the service of the U.S. Navy, this series established the basis of the distribution of recruitment credits to Massachusetts municipalities.
Arrangement: Arranged alphabetically by municipality, thereunder alphabetically by surname
Notes: Vol. 1 (Reel GSU 503): Boston.  Vol. 2 (Reel GSU 504): Other towns, A-Y; Maine towns
