Adjutant General’s Office: Descriptive list of recruits for Massachusetts Volunteers

Part of: Massachusetts Adjutant General's Office

Descriptive list of recruits for Massachusetts Volunteers, 1863-1864.

16 volumes
Call no.: PS1/477X

Scope and Content: The adjutant general of the Commonwealth, as executive administrator of the state’s Military Establishment, has been responsible for maintaining and reporting data concerning militia strength; these activities were intensified during the Civil War.  Unlike other descriptive rolls in which information is arranged by military unit, this series is a straight descriptive listing of Civil War recruits based on that point in time at which they were mustered into state service.
Arrangement: Arranged by county (or camp of rendezvous), then chronologically by date of muster
Notes: Spine title: Enlistment & descriptive rolls
