Scope and Content: Under successive authorizations, the Land Office oversaw the management and sale of public lands in Maine for the Commonwealth during the first half of the 19th century. Among its duties were the receipt and filing of documents pertaining to events in Maine that related to its main purpose of managing lands. This administrative file documents the activities of the Commonwealth in responding to the threat of insurrection in Kennebec County in 1809. Consisting of a variety of materials, the file details the responses of the several involved agents of the government in Massachusetts and the District of Maine. The governor, Council, General Court, local sheriff and the justices of the common pleas are the government officials primarily represented.
